Great passions are often sparked by little seeds. The history of Apollonio winery dates back to 1870, in the aftermath of the Italian unification. It was in the south of the Salento region – where most people made a living out of wine – that the story of Apollonio’s family began; such has succeeded in exporting Salento’s high-quality wine tradition all over the world thanks to its passion and hard work. It was 1870 when Noè Apollonio planted his own vineyard and produced wine for the first time. The Estate extends over a surface of approximately 500 hectares, 30 of which are planted with vineyard as specialized cultivation, 50 with century-old olive groves; 100 are cultivated as an area to be sown with seed, while the remaining part is made up of pastures and woods for the livestock, bred in the wild state, like the cattle of the Podolic breed and the black pig of Calabria. The vineyards lie in the locality known as “Timpa Bianca”, in the municipality of Cirò Marina, at just a short distance from the sea; in the hinterland “Motta”; in the village of Carfizzi and in the area of “Maradea”, in the municipality of Umbriatico. The Villa Trasqua estate produces concentrated, terroir Chianti Classico DOCG wines of the utmost quality in significant and stable quantities. The level of attention placed in the vineyard, based on the fundamental principle “wine is made in the vineyard” enables us to harvest fully-ripe and aromatic grapes that are slowly and genuinely turned into concentrated and authentic wines without the use of great technologies. Love, enthusiasm and passion for wine are our team’s driving forces, bringing ever-growing harmony between vineyard and cellar, resulting in an ideal range of Chianti Classico and IGT wines.

My name is Pierfranco, I am the youngest descendant of the Baldi family, winemakers devoted to vine growing and to the ancient art of wine making for generations. My vineyards stretching over 12 hectares lie on hills with very good sunny exposure. If you want to visit me in one of your trips in my region, I will be pleased to welcome you and accompany you for a visit to my vineyards and my cellar for a tasting of the wines I produce.
